Overview
Most of Alaska is off the road system, so a tower job there is as much a logistics problem as a construction one. Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau have conventional access, while many villages and ridge-top sites depend on aircraft, boats or seasonal routes.
Climate & Seasonal Conditions
Permafrost across much of the interior and the north changes how foundations are designed and built, and thaw or frost heave can move structures that were sound when installed. Winters are long and cold, with heavy snow in the south and coast, and icing and strong winds on exposed ridges. The practical building season is short, and daylight swings widely between summer and winter, so work is sequenced around it.
Typical Work in Alaska
- Foundation work scoped for frozen ground, frost heave and seasonal thaw conditions
- Fly-in and barge-supported crew and material logistics for off-road sites
- Tower erection and antenna installs in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and surrounding areas
- Inspection and maintenance on structures facing icing and high ridge-top winds
- Decommissioning and equipment removal where hauling gear out is the hard part
