Overview
With Charleston, Huntington, Morgantown and a lot of narrow valleys, West Virginia is one of the harder states for wireless coverage, and that makes ridgetop sites especially valuable. Access, not distance, is the main challenge.
Climate & Seasonal Conditions
Terrain is steep throughout, with ridgetop sites reached by long, narrow and sometimes unpaved roads that can wash out in heavy rain. Winter ice and snow load structures and block road access, and valley flooding after heavy rain is a recurring hazard. Cut-and-fill pads, shallow rock and slope stability all feed into foundation and compound planning.
Typical Work in West Virginia
- Ridgetop tower work with long, steep access roads
- Pad construction and foundations on sloped or rocky ground
- Ice and snow inspection and repair on exposed ridge sites
- Flood and washout recovery for access roads and compounds
- Antenna additions to improve coverage along valley highways and towns
